AUTISM AND ADHD COACHING

Embrace your difference...

Getting Support in a Neurotypical World

An autistic, ADHD and/or high IQ brain changes let you perceive the world in a different way, both sensorially and cognitively. Unfortunately, the particular way of functioning and the specific needs of the neurodivergent people are rarely taken into account by the others, the neurotypicals.

The world has not been designed with neurodivergents in mind, and their daily lives are full of tiring, energy-consuming nuisances that are not visible to the outside world. This easily leads to misunderstandings with those around them, as well as doubts about one's abilities and self-worth.

We are well aware of these challenges. We coach adults with autism and/or ADHD in order to strengthen their self-confidence and provide them means to succeed in their education and at work.

Dealing with Everyday Annoyances

If you are autistic and/or ADHD, you face many challenges in your daily life, such as

  • Sensory nuisance

  • Misunderstandings in social relationships

  • Fatigue and exhaustion

  • Disregard for your needs by those around you

  • Feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem

  • Planning and organizational difficulties

  • Disruptive changes around you

Overcoming the Obstacles

Under these conditions, moments of failure and frustration easily follow one another. Moreover, you are often facing misunderstanding and rejection from people around you.

Obviously, this leaves its traces. As a result, you probably doubt your abilities and suffer from low self-esteem.

What Your Coaching Will Look Like

Do you feel that you are often at odds with others? Do you recognize yourself in the testimonials of people with autism, ADHD and/or HI? Even without a diagnosis from a psychiatrist or psychologist, you can always get in touch with us.

An initial contact, usually by telephone, allows you to ask your questions and get an idea of our way of coaching. In the first coaching session, we take the time to assess your needs and determine together a specific goal to be achieved through the coaching. You will decide for yourself what is relevant to you at this time and what you would like to change.

In the following sessions, you will develop the ability to achieve your goal. Our coaching usually takes three to five sessions, each lasting one to one and a half hours. In any case, it complements the interventions of other professionals, such as psychiatrists and psychologists, who are the only ones qualified to make a diagnosis.

Coaching takes place in a supportive and pleasant atmosphere. You can fully trust our coach Beát Edelmann and his coaching methods.

Meet our neurodivergent coach

My name is Beat Edelmann and I found out very late, at the age of 61, that I am autistic and have ADHD. A further assessment revealed that I have a high IQ as well. Before the diagnosis, I had the opportunity to experience the different facets of life: pursuing various educations, living in a relationship, being a father, working in various professions, in companies as well as in non-profit organizations. It hasn't all been easy, but I have gained a great deal of experience. However, the feeling of not quite fitting in and being different from everyone else has stuck with me all my life.

Therefore, I know the challenges of living as a neurodivergent person and how the world is not organized in our favor. The diagnosis has given me a new understanding of myself and made me organize my life in a way that suits my needs better. I now appreciate the strengths of my specialness without denying the problems that are still present throughout my daily life.

By participating in various support groups, I was able to get to know a lot of other people with similar conditions and discovered the vastness of the neurodivergent spectrum. After my diagnosis, autism and ADHD became special interests of mine and I started to learn more about them. This specific knowledge, together with my various certifying education and my experience in coaching since 2016, is the basis for my current activity.

Today, I help people with autism, ADHD and/or high IQ to live a more fulfilling and satisfying life.

Beát's Way of Coaching

Given my own experience with autism, ADHD and/or HPI, I can assure you that your coaching will take place in a caring and understanding atmosphere.  I will take into account your sometimes painful experiences, but will also keep in mind your strengths and potential.

My coaching of neurodivergent people is based on two pillars:

  • understanding your own being

  • and wise self-management

Understanding your own being

Just after the diagnosis, you are likely to notice more strongly the difficulties associated with your neurodivergence. This is painful - but helpful, if you no longer want to bump into doors that are closed to you. By getting to know yourself, you can identify your personal needs and express them. Finally, you can develop your own strategies to overcome your challenges and discover your strengths, which are quite often linked to your uniqueness.

A toolbox for dealing with your challenges

In my coaching, I rely to a large extent on the ZRM® self-management method developed at the University of Zurich. It's a fantastic toolbox for regulating one's emotions and modifying one's behavior. This approach is perfectly suited to the needs of neurodivergent people. It will enable you to find pleasant and useful ways of coping with your daily challenges.
